More than 75,000 escalators and moving walks are in use today in the European Union with more than 50% of them installed more than 20 years ago.Because the life expectancy of escalators and moving walks is longer than other forms of vertical transportation many of the existing installations will not comply with todays state of the art safety standards.Increased levels of safety and improved safety features are introduced over the years as a consequence of in service incidents. Improvements to safety levels are not usually addressed until a unit is either modernised or Men Clothing replaced.BS EN 1152:2010 SAFETY OF EXISTING ESCALATORS AND MOVING WALKS PART 2: RULES FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF SAFETY OF EXISTING ESCALATORS AND MOVING WALKSHowever this new British and European standard seeks to address the shortfall of this existing equipment in operation by comparing the safety level of escalators and moving walks installed after 1970. A comparison is made to the current standard EN 115-1:2008. This latter standard is the latest version of the current standard for the construction and installation of escalators and moving walkways. The document was approved by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) in June 2010 and published by British Standards Institute on 31st August 2010.This new standard categorises various hazards and hazardous situations which have been analysed by risk assessment based on Standard ISO 14798. This provides sufficient detail to enable equipment to be audited by qualified engineers and safety improvements to be identified. The standard enables the identification of High, Medium and Low Risks present in existing installations. The intention is to then identify the corrective actions to enable selective and progressive safety improvements to be implemented. The standard will also identify corrective actions necessary to comply with all relevant existing Regulations, e.g. Iphone Accessories Use of Work Equipment Directive. The standardd may be used as a guide to audit units installed before 1970 however it will Wholesale be necessary to carry out a separate risk assessment to determine what hazards exist.Whilst there is no statutory obligation for an owner to upgrade NOW that this standard is in existence were an accident to happen that could have been prevented by addressing the risk assessment generated by this new standard owners and managing agents could be exposed to Nail Art far greater criticism and be forced to accept liabilities that, in the past, might have been easier to dispense with.
